If you don't have any introduction to marketing at all, this book will do you a great deal of good. Otherwise, it fails to answer the basic question: what is marketing. Marketing is the complex policy making that causes your product to be more visible than competing products, more desirable than competing products and sell better than competing products. This book gives these three subjects a light going over, and is as good a place as any to start, but don't look for any answers here.

Just an awesome book!!!!

This book is a huge gigantic step in getting people to be more awake and mindful within their religious practice with regards to total compassion for all living sentient beings and the environment. Whatever that particular faith amongst the world's major traditions may be, Christian, Buddhist, Islam etc, all call upon the practicioner (follower) to be compassionate and act in such a way that adds more love and reduces suffering in the world.

A must read for anyone who professes to have a spiritual or religious component to their lives or even for the non-religious person who wonders what the rest of the world's religions have written about how humans ought interact with the other animals who call this planet their home.

I have never had a book I underlined more and will most certainly use this handy work as I seek to get people to think about their own faith and the food they eat. This book is about getting people to make the necessary and very logical and practical connections which exist in all world religions regarding a virtuous spiritual path.

The amazing thing here is how all major world religions actually on a fundamental level uphold a life-style that does not exploit and visit suffering upon animals for food, milk etc... which causes massive suffering on the scale of many many billions each and every year. In fact the average American directly or indirectly through diety habits is responsible for the deaths of something like 200 animals each and every year. Just think if we stopped all this suffering and chose a better healthier diet that did not rely on animal exploitation in any form. It would be a total win-win. Human health and well-being would be greatly improved physically and spiritualy. The environment would be improved; factory farming in the US consumes more grain than humans and produces far more waste (not treated) than humans.

Remarkably accessible scholarship

If you're looking for a book about views on animals in a specific religion (e.g. Christianity or Buddhism) there are several books to choose from, but if you want to read about animals in ALL the major religions, Kemmerer's work is THE book to read. Massive research has gone into Animals and World Religions--being an author on the topic of animal ethics, I can appreciate the amount of work that this volume required. Despite being a monumental research effort, Kemmerer's writing is non-technical--an easy and enjoyable read, riddled with interesting stories and anecdotes. Animals and World Religions is an impressive piece of remarkably accessible scholarship.

Religious Perspectives on Animal Welfare: A Great Exposition

This book is excellent from a number of perspectives: Firstly, the author has gone to great lengths to actually use the various scriptures of the World Religions and the writings and sayings of their proponents and connects the principles of each of the belief systems/religions with respect to non-human animals or as the author creatively puts it: 'anymals'. The topic of the book and approach have a number of benefits: It is shown by Kemmerer that at the core, each of these religions is expressing the same view in terms of the sacredness of creation and how we as humans ought to recognize and relate to it. The book makes one curious to learn more about each of these religions and engage in further comparative analysis. It also clears up misconceptions 'believers' have about each others religions that can lead to co-operation rather than conflict and working towards a common cause (such as animal protection). The chapter on Islam is very extensive and thorough, for example, and highlights the vast concern for 'anymals' in Islam, not even known to many Muslims themselves!

Many of the followers of these religions have no doubt strayed from their respective founders' belief structures. There are aspects of current 'malpractices' in the name of religion that do indeed sadly exist. However, I think that the author has wisely left these out of discussion and focused on the positive aspects; those which were practised by the 'founders'. The book as a whole is therefore well researched, written and very motivational. It should be required reading for courses on this subject, at high school and university level, where this crucial topic of animals/ecology certainly needs to be discussed in greater depth and scope.

About the Author

William C. Whiting, PhD, is a professor and director of the biomechanics laboratory in the department of kinesiology at California State University at Northridge (CSUN) and an adjunct professor in the department of physiological science at UCLA. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in biomechanics and human anatomy for more than 25 years. As an author and researcher, Whiting has written more than 60 research articles, abstracts, and book chapters, along with two other books, Dynatomy: Dynamic Human Anatomy and the first edition of this book, both published by Human Kinetics, Inc.

Whiting has served on many editorial boards, including Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Strength and Conditioning Journal, ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal, and American Council on Exercise, FitnessMatters. He also serves as a reviewer for numerous journals, including Journal of Applied Biomechanics, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Strength and Conditioning Journal, Clinical Biomechanics, Clinical Kinesiology, and ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal.

In 2002 Whiting received CSUN's Distinguished Teaching Award. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of the American Society of Biomechanics, the International Society of Biomechanics, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. He is also a former president of the Southwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Whiting lives in Glendale, California, with his wife, Marji, and children Trevor, Emmi, and Tad. He enjoys playing basketball, hiking, and reading.

Ronald F. Zernicke, PhD, is a professor at the University of Michigan in the division of kinesiology and the departments of orthopaedic surgery and biomedical engineering. He is also the director of the Musculoskeletal and Sport Injury Prevention Center.

Before moving to Ann Arbor in 2007, Zernicke was professor and chair of the department of kinesiology at UCLA and was professor for joint injury research at the University of Calgary faculties of kinesiology (dean, 1998-2005), medicine, and engineering. At the University of Calgary, Zernicke was the executive director of the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute and served as director of the Alberta Provincial CIHR training program in bone and joint health, a combined graduate program of the University of Calgary and University of Alberta.

Zernicke has taught courses in biomechanics and injury mechanisms at the university level for more than 30 years. He received the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award as well as the City of Calgary Community Achievement Award in Education. He has authored more than 545 peer-reviewed research publications and two books, including the first edition of this book, which received the Preeminent Scholarly Publication Award from CSUN in 2002.

Zernicke has served on the editorial boards of Journal of Motor Behavior, Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews, Journal of Biomechanics, and Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Canadian Society of Biomechanics and an international fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

Zernicke has also served as president of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB), the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB), and the Canadian Society of Biomechanics (CSB). He continues to be an active member of the ISB, ASB, CSB, and the Canadian Orthopedic Research Society, Orthopedic Research Society (USA), American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and Biomedical Engineering Society (USA).

Zernicke is the recipient of numerous achievement awards, most notably the NASA Cosmos Achievement Award awarded by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration, CIHR Partnership Award, Founders Award (Best Research) given by the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society, and Alumnus of the Year from Concordia University Chicago.

In his leisure time, Zernicke enjoys reading, cross-country skiing, and hiking. He lives in Ann Arbor with his wife, Kathy.

Review of Biomechanics of Musculosketal Injury

The authors Whiting and Zernicke are to be congratulated for this high-quality reference book. As someone who testifies often in civil litigation cases regarding the physical mechanics of motor vehicle and premises accidents and the associated mechanisms of human injury, I found this book to be a superb addition to my technical library. For the uninitiated in injury mechanics, it begins impressively with a low-gear, historical, and introductory manner, and takes the reader though many basic mechanical concepts. The book then covers a wide assortment of human injuries and their causal mechanisms. I observed that the book is very well-formated with titles, sub-titles, text, add-in framed articles, effective anatomical line drawings, and illustrative photographs. While the book is technical in nature, I noted that it was written to be appreciated by those outside the technical area of injury biomechanics. I readily recommend this book to anyone interested in the mechanisms of human injury.

This is a great text. I read the first edition cover-to-cover in grad school, and am now working my way through this second edition. Covering the topic completely takes the length of a career, but they've done about as good an overview as one could expect in 300 pages. Very appropriate for any health professional, trainers, or anyone else dealing with musculoskeletal issues of any sort.

I absolutely LOVE Mark Hayes' arrangements

I absolutely LOVE Mark Hayes' arrangements! They incorporate a lot of great jazz harmonies and rhythms, without EVER losing the heart and sound of the original song. Some of them are CRAZY difficult to play, and take a LOT of work to learn, but the results are well worth it. This book is definitely NOT for the beginner, though. It requires intermediate to advanced skills to play these multi-layered and complex arrangements.

I particularly liked the lively arrangement of "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" with a little "When We All Get To Heaven" thrown in for good measure. The wistful "I Will Arise and Go to Jesus" is really beautiful! Really, there is NOTHING in this book that is not simply outstanding!

Excellent Advanced Sacred Solos!

As the other reviewers have said, this book is excellent and truly advanced. Yet, it's not so advanced that an advanced pianist will have to work months on each song. The arrangements have a lot of grandeur, and often flowing sweetness, too. This book is neither a boring copycat of every other book nor a compilation of bizarre arrangements full of discords. It's fresh - incredible to hear and play.

Here is a listing of the contents, since I'm sure many would like to know:
1. Sweet By and By (5 Pages)
2. He Hideth My Soul (4 Pages)
3. When I Can Read my Title Clear (4 Pages)
4. Heavenly Sunlight (6 Pages)
5. I Will Arise and Go to Jesus (4 Pages)

7. I'll Fly Away (5 Pages)
8. There is a Balm in Gilead (5 Pages)
9. When the Roll is Called up Yonder (6 Pages)
10. On Jordan's Stormy Banks (4 Pages)
11. The Old Rugged Cross (5 Pages)
12. How Great Thou Art (7 Pages)

I would include the keys they are written in, but there is at least one key change in every song, sometimes several. Often the songs have complicated keys (such as 4 or 5 flats) with interludes of easy ones. It keeps the songs interesting.
The Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art are very advanced and absolutely thrilling to play. Definitely my favorites!

About the Author
Ray Whittington is chairman of the accounting department at San Diego State University, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Houston. He has also been the Director of Audit Research for the AICPA Kurt Pany is a professor of accounting at Arizona State University, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He has been the Director of Audit Research for the AICPA and remains an active member of the AAA.

The Best Auditing Book Available

During the 16 years that I have taught Financial Auditing at the university level I have been constantly on the lookout for the best available book. I chose Whittington & Pany because (1) it is succinct, (2) it presents auditing concepts clearly (although the authors do sugar coat the accounting scandals of the past 20 years and fail to give credit where credit is due by naming the firms involved in them), (3) the page layout is attractive and easy to read, and most importantly (4) my students preferred it over other texts (one student told me that she chose my class after looking through the assigned texts for all of the Auditing sections, an excellent idea).

The current (15th ed.) has been brought up to date with a limited discussion of Sarbanes-Oxley and the PCAOB.

The material is obviously dry, but I found that it was possible to make my classes more interesting by incorporating newspaper accounts of the more egregious audit failures in the assigned readings, and by being honest about the arrogance, greed and stupidity that are all too typical of the accounting profession today. This practice has brought complaints by the local offices of the major firms, to which my department head replied that they are welcome to come speak to the classes to explain their side of the story. To date, they have not accepted the invitation.

I just noticed the study guide had 2 (6&7) chapters of the answers ripped out. How can you tell something for $130 and it's incomplete. Any replacement of the answers to these 2 chapters?

Very well written. Easy to follow. The book had a lot of good points. I really enjoyed reading and learning the material as it was presented in class the same way it was written.
