AMIYA K. JANA (PhD) is Assistant Professor at IIT Kharagpur. He received his BE degree in chemical engineering in 1998 from Jadavpur University, M.Tech. in chemical engineering (specialization: Petroleum Refining Engineering and Petrochemicals) in 2000 from IIT Kharagpur, and PhD in chemical engineering (specialization: Control Systems) in 2004 from IIT Kharagpur.

Chemical Process Modelling and Computer Simulation

Dr. Amiya K. Jana did a great job of covering this complex subject in a tutorial and deliberate fashion. I was educated in the 60's in chemical engineering in the Texas A&M school system at Lamar University and i could not help up notice the way Dr. Jana approached this subject like a professor of the 60's. the work is complete stands on its own two feet with good documentation and good reference data. I was particularly impressed with the the activity coefficients table in the his work for a variety of refinery components that can reused for a constellation applications my favorite being he application for heat exchangers condensing mixed hydrocarbon light end vapors. I guess I liked the way the subject matter was presented and the completeness of the back up information, it reminded me of some of my best professors in school.

Modeling and simulation before control

A very good and useful text for the practicing control engineer. From derivations via first principles to a complete set of algebraic and differential equations through to computer code ! Wonderful. Certainly a useful investment. The equations describe distillation coulmns, simple reactors and give all the initial conditions required for one to develop one's own models after seeing the full job done. I work in an operating refinery and will use this text for some time, and will recommend it to junior engineers too.
