Came as described and even had the DVD. (DVD is terribly done so don't rely on it for actual learning. YouTube is a better source for film)

This is an excellent text. Any professor searching for a Cultural Anthropology text needn't look any further. Heider presents the material in a very interesting, concise, and very clear way. Heider clearly illustrates the holistic approach to anthropology and explores that avenue in an exciting way.

They could see enemy soldiers emerging from the thick copse of trees. Strong hands reached down to grab Ruby’s end of the litter and quickly pulled it aboard. More strong hands reached for Ruby and the Corporal and threw them into the plane. With engines roaring the plane took off down the runway followed by a hail of bullets. Ruby picked herself up and glanced back through a side window. The ambulance she left moments earlier exploded in a tower of flame.

Unforgettable

Ruby Bradley's story shows how brave the Army and Navy nurses were during imprisonment in the Phillipines. When she joined the Army Nurse Corps before WWII, never did she imagine the frightful experience the next few years would bring. Ruby and Beatrice Chambers were the only Army nurses stationed at Camp John Hay, the mountain base where the Japanese bombs first hit before bombing the bases at Manila. The small medical staff spent the next days constantly caring for the wounded being brought in to the Army hospital. When the enemy troops neared the nurses left with a small group to escape to the hillside. Eventually they were captured along with civilians in Baguio. For the next three years the nurses continued to care for those who suffered starvation and illnesses under a brutal enemy.

After being rescued, returning to the States, and resuming her Army nursing, Ruby Bradley volunteered for another war, Korea, and began the next exciting experience in her career. Read the book to find out what a remarkabe woman she was.

I was honored to be able to interview Beatrice Chambers, who was at Camp John Hay, for my book, NO TIME FOR FEAR, VOICES OF AMERICAN MILITARY NURSES IN WORLD WAR II. What a story these two women shared.

I came to love Colonel Bradley as I was completing this book

I read this book in less than two days. Being a nurse for 26 years, along with being in the Navy for three years (non-nursing) , I came to love Colonel Bradley as I was completing this book. Colonel Bradley seemed to be firm, but fair, serious, but had a witty sense of humor. As to her wounded patients (solders), whether they were black or white,she was like a mother and big sister to these guys, telling them it's going to be okay! It appeared while reading this book that the junior nurses, her corpsmen, and the doctors/surgeons with whom she worked along side with, Colonel Bradley was highly praised and respected! Very Good book . I enjoyed reading every page of this book.

Excellent book for the piano repertoire!

Master piece music book! The arrangements were made by Joe Hisaishi himself.
If you really want to perform this songs as they were written, you will have to study them as
seriously as if you were studying Bach, Mozart, Beethoven or any other serious composer.
The quality of the paper is great, although, the book is paperback.

Best Ghibli Piano Book

This book contains, by far, my favorite arrangements of pieces from Studio Ghibli films. The arrangements, written by Joe Hisaishi himeself, are rich and well written for the piano. The scores are beautiful and the binding is very nice. Many of the most popular pieces are included. If you're looking for Ghibli piano arrangements, this is the book.

This book leaves something to be desired

I have been reading this book for a class. I must say that this book is not as detailed as I would like it to be. I am an engineer and my expectation was that when a statement is made details would be provided to backup the statements. And the figures in the book are not easy to understand quickly. There must be a better book out there.

I learned about "Warrior: A Path to Self-Sovereignty" by Geoff Thompson from a friend of mine. He sent me the book thinking I would enjoy it since I live and teach by similar principles. Well, Nick knows me well, because I really enjoyed this book. It reinforced some of my own beliefs and made me think about others. While it is a great book for martial artists to read, I think anyone who wants to live more powerfully can learn from this book and become more courageous and live lives with more purpose.

The warrior mentality that Thompson writes about in this book is similar to my Warrior's Edge teachings. Both of us are helping people reclaim their warriorship and live more purposefully and powerfully, regardless if they have occupations in the military, law enforcement, security or related fields, and regardless if they practice martial arts. Living as a warrior, basing your life on the principles that Thompson shares and guides you through in this text, is for anyone and everyone who wants to maximize their potential and live life to its fullest.

The chapters focus on various traits and ways to live. These include: Seeking a difficult life, Seeking self-mastery, Being gentle, Being industrious, Being virtuous, Making no excuses, Living in the present, Being a responsible parent, Being balanced, Being spiritual, Living free, Mentoring others, Serving others, and living with the concept of kaizen. As you can see, this book is not about fighting, or learning how to use weapons or other instruments of war. This book focuses on developing a warrior mindset that allows you to live as a warrior, to live with courage.

I was familiar with Geoff Thompson because of his book, "Dead or Alive," with Paladin Press, who also published my first book and DVDs. So I knew that Thompson knew a lot about fighting and self-defense. However, now I know that he has branched out from his original teachings on the aspects of fighting and defending oneself to the mental and self-development areas that martial arts and war arts can also help a person manifest. It's a similar path to the one I'm on, and others have followed. Maybe it comes with age, maturity and wisdom. And wisdom is something Thompson has and shares. I'm looking forward to reading more of his books, and am glad my friend Nick turned me on to them. (And was nice enough to send a couple to me.)

If you want to read an engaging self-development book, that will share some of Thompson's journey to help you along your own, I highly recommend "Warrior: A Path To Self-Sovereignty." Not only did I enjoy reading it, I looked to my own life to ensure I was living on the path as Thompson suggests, and I will look back to this book to help keep me on the path and to assist with my Warrior's Edge teachings.

Looking at old cultures, especially the warrior cultures like the Romans and the Greek Spartans, the downfall came when people softened up as a result of the comfort they were enjoying. This allowed them to be defeated and conquered by their tougher and more arduous opponents. In case of the Romans this were the Germanic tribes. As soon as the `Ardua' or hardships from the Latin saying `per ardua at astra' or trough hardships to the stars was swapped for too much comfort their culture started to decline.
Although fiction a good example is the movie Rocky III, in the first two instalments of the series the protagonist, a young boxers toughened up by the hardships of the slums takes on and defeats the current champion. In Rocky III he enjoys the comforts of being a champ himself. However the comfortable, soft and easy life does him more bad than good which allows another boxer from the slums to defeat him. His old opponent from the first two instalments contacts him and mentors him to regain the `eye of the tiger'.
Compared to preceding generations ours is one that enjoys a lot of comfort which might seem a blessing but history teaches us that the opposite is true. The human body is built to amongst others move around and to cope with famine, though a symptom of the current times is that many people enjoy desk jobs and suffer overweight.
In Warrior, world renowned martial artist, self-protection expert, former doorman and now famous author, Geoff Thompson shows us a path towards reclaiming sovereignty over the self, building the mental muscle or to use the metaphor from Rocky, `regain the eye of the tiger.'
In 14 easy to read chapters Geoff explains 14 different attributes of warriorship. Each chapter includes a part called `warrior practices' which explains how to apply the information from the chapter to your daily life as well as a summary.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to live a courageous life and wants to attain mastery!

About the Author
Well-known and respected within the field of real estate testing, John R. Morgan spent over three years at Assessment Systems, Inc. (ASI) as its primary Real Estate Test Developer. During this time he worked with all of the State and General item banks for ASI's then-20+ real estate client jurisdictions by traveling to each client and working with their Real Estate Commission to ensure their exams were kept stocked with current, relevant, accurate, and well-crafted questions. Morgan has been a member of the Real Estate Educators Association (REEA) since 1996, and has presented several seminars for national educators and state licensing officials on Item-Writing and Testing Standards at its annual conferences. To date he has written 9 exam prep books and numerous new editions for national use, as well as a Guide to Bermuda Real Estate at the request of the government of Bermuda. Morgan has been a professional educator and writer since receiving his Master of Arts in Teaching English from Brown University, and took his first real estate course while studying literature at the University of Connecticut. He held his first real estate license in Rhode Island during graduate school, his second in Arizona, where he sold property in Tucson, and now holds his third in his native Connecticut, where he lives on the eastern shore with his wife, two young sons, and countless cousins. I found that this book was extremely useful in preparing me for my Real Estate Exam. I passed my test on the first try!!! (which is what I set out to do) This book follows the PSI outline and it is written very very well. This book is worth every penny!!! I will be a good reference guide to have on hand.

Totally worth your time.

This was actually really good both in story and how it was wrote. Initially I started reading this over some dinner only to get interrupted, however once I returned to reading it I could not put it down. The characters are all really well written,they each have a strong desire that makes them go forward in the plot, and makes it all the more entertaining to read. It's easy to feel attached to them. I can't wait to see what's next and without a doubt plan to purchase it immediately when given chance. Bravo ~

NEW NORA FLITE'S BOOK!!!!! :D *dances around the room*
Though this is a collaboration you notice her special touch in some scenes ;)

Plot: forbidden love with a twist of scorching lust.

Characters: well developed. I liked both their personalities. She stood up for herself and showed she wasn't to be walked on.
I would have liked to know a bit more about Sara, her best friend. She was mainly in the background and I think her character could have played a bigger role.

Only flaw: the inner dialogue got a little old but nothing major.

Steamy, taboo romance

Charlotte “Charlie” Laroche is a therapist, having taken a new job at a prison in New England. Owen Jenkins is serving time for murder he was convicted of at age 18. Now 28, he’s completed his reduced term for manslaughter.

Owen hasn’t seen a woman in ten years and the first one he sees— his rehabilitation therapist— he can’t get her out of his head. Charlotte also can’t stop thinking about Owen, nor can she get a grasp on the attraction she feels for him. When the desire becomes too undeniable, they give into this passion.

Though the story, told from their dual 1st person POV, is on the shorter side, it has a bit of a slow build as the two wrestle with their temptation to each other while he’s in prison. There are plenty of forbidden romances on the market to choose from and while some have become so common that the taboo has lost its stigma, this isn’t really the case with Chained. I think the danger of caving to temptation is easily felt, the risks heady, and holy cow is their first encounter hot and forbidden, not to mention unethical as Charlie well knows. The bound and shackled conjugal therapy session gets major points for originality.

Another plus, the romance focuses solely on Charlie and Owen, and Owen’s determination to make her his. The drama is mostly internal for 2/3 of the book and then external in the last 1/3 as Owen’s past catches up with him.

Overall, I liked both Charlie and Owen. Owen has been given a raw deal in life. He’s a little alpha when it comes to Charlie or even in general in the prison population, but he’s not over the top and Charlie knows how to handle herself. He appreciates her as a strong woman, and when the climax played out with Charlie being resourceful and keeping her wits, I thought she was too. I was a little disappointed in her reluctance about mid-way, but thankfully it didn’t last long. Owen’s integrity was very commendable. He’s a good example of not letting labels define the person underneath.

I really appreciated the low angst nature of the story. There were a few places I thought maybe the illicit aspect of it, specifically issues raised with her job, could have been cultivated further for a little deeper story. But for a hot forbidden tale with a bad boy who is NOT a manwhore and a pleasant (and steamy) HEA, this is one to feel safe about 1-clicking.

About the Author
Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005) is the author of numerous books, including History and Truth, The Conflict of Interpretations, From Text to Action, Freedom and Nature, and Husserl. These five titles are being reissued by Northwestern University Press with new forewords.

Kathleen Blamey has taught philosophy at California State University, Hayward, and the American University in Paris.

John B. Thompson is a professor of sociology at the University of Cambridge.

Richard Kearney is the Charles Seelig Professor in Philosophy at Boston College.
