Profound reading for those studying kaśmiri śaivism

Be aware that this title is the SAME book as the Paratriksika Vivarana (Par'tr''ik'vivara'a)...
So, if you are looking for this book wish to find it other places on AMAZON ( or compare pricing) then look for the Paratriksika Vivarana properly written as par'tr''ik'vivara'a... both are by the SAME translator jaideva singh, and original author abinavagupta-ji.
This book shown was printed 1988. The booked named Paratriksika Vivarana (Par'tr''ik'vivara'a) is a reprint that occurred 1996.

This is not an introductory book....it is also called trikas'tra-s i.e. the verses or s'tra-s of trika. It is thus named as the original author, abinavagupta-ji gives the reader/student the core principles of trika ( some know this is aligned to ka'mir 'aivism).
Let me offer just one notion so the reader can get a flavor of this knowledge.

From a ka'mir 'aivism POV brahman is recognized, yet slightly differently ( not better, just another angle).
Brahman is t't'yam brahman. What can this be ?
It is a standard point of reference that brahman is considered as o'-tat-sat in ved'nta. In trika ( or ka'mir 'aivism ) it is called the 3rd brahma.
That is , in o'-tat-sat it is the 3rd defining idea or sat that is considered. Yet this brahman is considered vast ( b'hat) , all pervading (vy'paka) and is completely in union with 'akti.
In ved'nta one may call out brahman as o'-tat-sat or as sat-cit-'nanda. In ka'mir 'aivism this whole concept can be related with one word
sau' ( sa +au + ') and is considered am'tb'ja, the very heart (h'daya) of bhairava ( parama'iva).

So we find this brahman in ka'miri 'aivism , called the 3rd brahman as there is more alignment with 'iva ( or bhairava) yet some of the points of view are different then the 'tgraditional' views of ved'nta. Again, not opposed but of a different orientation.
Is this the ONLY difference? No. I can count about 10 significant ones. Here is just a few:

Some differences ( not objections) to ved'nta:
yoga in action (karma-yoga)
mok'a and its delineation
ignorance and its ( complete) elimination
who is fit to practice yoga
the notion of m'y'
what is pure and impure
the ultimate Reality as being dormant or active ( aware of It-Self)

My only recommendation is this is not a general reading material book - it is a 'study' book. I come back to it year-in and year-out.
If one is earnest in their study this book ( also with other trika reading material) cultures the mind and intellect and improves
one's s'dhana ( as I have found).

A Must Read

I was absolutely captured as I read this book. The first two chapters were so informative and inspiring. We have ordered several copies for our Women's Ministry to read snd share at our meetings with our younger women who are lured by our society. The impression that outward beauty is what life is all about has our teens and young adults misguided. God looks at what no one else can see, the inner woman's beauty. A must read for all women and soon to be.

It helps you identify your value to God and how you can develop your good traits to be the wife, mother, and Godly woman that you truly are. I am a stay at home mom and I struggle with the stereo type of what women in "today's world" should be doing. About the Author
Bob Anderson is the world’s most popular stretching authority. For over 35 years, Bob has taught millions of people his simple approach to stretching.

Bob and his wife Jean first published a home-made version of Stretching in a garage in southern California in 1975. The drawings were done by Jean, based on photos she took of Bob doing the stretches. This book was modified and published by Shelter Publications in 1980 for general bookstore distribution and is now known by lay people as well as medical professionals as the most user-friendly book on the subject. To date it has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 23 languages.

Bob is fit and healthy these days, but it wasn’t always so. In 1968, he was overweight (190 pounds — at 5'9") and out of shape. He began a personal fitness program that got him down to 135 pounds. Yet one day, while in a physical conditioning class in college, he found he couldn’t reach much past his knees in a straight-legged sitting position. So Bob started stretching. He found he soon felt better and that stretching made his running and cycling easier.

The American fitness boom was just starting, and the millions of people who started working out were discovering the importance of flexibility in their fitness programs. After several years of exercising and stretching with Jean and a small group of friends, Bob gradually developed a method of stretching that could be taught to anyone. Soon he was teaching his technique to others. He began with professional sports teams: the Denver Broncos, the California (now Anaheim) Angels, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Jets. He also worked with college teams at Nebraska, UC Berkeley, Washington State, and Southern Methodist University, as well as other amateur and Olympic athletes in a variety of sports. He traveled around the country for years, teaching stretching to people at sports medicine clinics, athletic clubs, and running camps.

In the 1980s, Bob was a serious mountain runner and road biker. For ten years in a row he ran the Catalina Island Marathon in southern California, the 18-mile Imogene Pass run in Telluride, Colorado (which goes up over a 13,000-foot-high ridge), and the Pike’s Peak Marathon. These days Bob spends most of his workout time on a mountain bike and hiking in the mountains above his house in Colorado, often going for 3–5 hour bike rides in the mountains, with occasional trips to Nevada. Though Bob works out a lot, he knows that training like this is not necessary for the average person to be fit. Through his travels, lectures, and workshops, he’s kept in constant touch with people in all degrees of physical condition.

Jean Anderson has a B.A. in art from California State University at Long Beach. She began running and cycling (and stretching) with Bob in 1970. She developed a system of shooting photos of Bob doing the stretches, then making clear ink drawings of each stretch position. Jean was photographer, illustrator, typesetter, and editor of the first homemade edition of Stretching. These days she oversees Stretching Inc.’s mail-order business, and hikes and cycles to stay in shape.

worth every penny and much more..

I was hesitant to buy this book at first since I buy way too many books that I dont have time to read or to follow but this year having reached 40, I realiized I couldnt bend as easily as I used to. Dont have much time to practise yoga any more and frankly hate reading 3 pages to do a simple sit up.The best thing I liked about this book is it has simple drawings or sketches( not pics. of individuals)which are very clear and the arrows showing direction of movement and crossed positions you are not supposed to do. I am a single mom who is working and going back to college and frankly after reading so much that includes helping my kid with his middle school, I really dont want to read too much to perform a stretch. By the way, I just got this book yesterday in mail and did upper body stretches since I was carrying too much tension on my shoulders, i felt relieved in just 6 minutes..Amazing..very simple stretches which everyone should do every day.

The Best Ever

I highly recommend this new edition of an old standby. Anderson's update on the best ever book on stretching is amazing. I wasn't sure how they were going to improve on the original. (I've been using the first edition for years.) The illustrations are easier to follow with the two color format and the groupings for task/sport specific stretches is expanded. This is by far the best, most authoritive book on stretching ever written - Also the most easy to understand for the layman. This book would be a great gift for a chriropractor or phys-ed student or anyone who wishes to have and keep their body healthy and flexible.

Stretching Truly Enhances One's Life

At sixty years young I decided to incorporate stretching exercises into my bike training program. Because Bob Anderson's "Stretching" was recommended in numerous books I had read, I acquired a copy and proceeded to use the exercises recommended for cycling. I perform the recommended cycling exercises each morning and find not only that my range of motion has improved but perhaps more importantly that muscle aches and pains are immediately re-mediated. I highly recommend Mr. Anderson's book.

Helped me overcome fears.

I am extremely shy and have never liked speaking in public. I did not enjoy having to give presentations in front of my friends and classmates in high school and I would always mess up. I am working on starting my own business and I wanted to be able to speak with customers or clients with ease and not be nervous. A friend suggested that I look into TED Talks so I decided to check it out. This book really helps by giving you step by step ways to overcome fears and learn to speak publicly. I feel like I will be able to carry on conversations with potential clients and customers with no issues and I think I am one step closer to being able to actually give a good presentation. I am excited now instead of scared and nervous.

Excellent Public Speaking Guide

The steps you need to use are very simple but if you read this book and follow the steps you will become a more passionate, well spoken public speaker. The book is well written and the author is very knowledgeable on the topic. Reading TED Talks will give you the keys necessary to be more self confident about standing up in front of a crowd and giving a speech to be proud of. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about public speaking and I think this book would be especially helpful to high school and college students who have to give a lot of presentations and speeches in front of their classes.

Five stars, very helpful.

I have to say that this is a great book. I am truly amazed.
I was getting ready for a big presentation at work and I was feeling a little off track. I wasn't sure where to start from and which direction to go to in order to present my big idea.
After reading this book I was very optimistic about my performance. This book showed me how to be focused, calm and effective at the same time. My presentation was very straightforward and everybody absorbed my idea they way I wanted them to.
I am very satisfied and I will highly recommend it.
