Eugen Fink (1905–1975) was a student and colleague of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. Spiel als Weltsymbol was published in 1960. This is the first English translation.

great collection of statistical tables

If you have Sokal and Rohlf's Biometry book it pays to get these tables. They are referenced throughout the book and it is convenient to have them to do most of the problems.
One thing to watch out for is to make sure that the edition of the tables matches the edition of the text. I have the second edition of the book and the third edition of the tables. The authors removed eight tables in the third edition and instead of using the numbering system of the second edition, they switched to letters floowed by double letters after they ran through the alphabet.

There are many useful tables and explanations are given, so they can be used independently of the text. However, if you get the text you will want the tables. The tables are referenced in numerous interesting and instructive examples in the text.

In the Preface to the Second Edition the authors say that the tables are there for pedigogical reasons only and they chose not to include them in the text because in these days pocket calculators can often be used as replacements for tables. Nevertheless without realizing it the reader does become dependent on these tables to get a full understanding of the examples.

If you get the book get the tables also. If you just want to have a reference set of statistical tables they are useful but I much prefer the "Pocket Book of Statistical Tables" by Odeh and Owens.

In each of her La-D-Da cross stitch pieces, Lori Markovic combines the homey appeal of primitive samplers with a touch of modern flair. She began cross stitching when her children were little and became inspired by vintage samplers. "I wanted to try designing a sampler, because I was thinking a lot about the girls who stitched those Early American pieces. Their lives were all about family, home, and faith--ideals that run through all generations. And that's how I started La-D-Da Designs." Lori and husband Bob live in Wisconsin, where they are happily surrounded by family. Lori likes to garden and bird watch, which no doubt inspires many of the natural elements in her designs. Another inspiration is the strong sense of community she enjoys with fellow cross-stitchers.

Very disappointed, it's just repeatition of content the older version but in a different format. What's the point of a new edition if there isn't any new info?? Great way to make money I guess. But complete waste of money if you have the older version like me!!!

Just What I Was Looking For!

I can’t say I’m proud to admit it—and I definitely don’t want to talk about it, but I have been picking at my skin for years. While it is something that I do when no one else is around, the scars are a daily reminder of my compulsive behavior. This book gave great insight as to how and why I developed this habit—and more importantly how I can overcome my behavior. I have always been too embarrassed to seek out a professional in this area, making this book just what I was looking for!

Prior to the millennium, economists and policy makers argued that free trade between the United States and Mexico would benefit both Americans and Mexicans. They believed that NAFTA would be a "win-win" proposition that would offer U.S. companies new markets for their products and Mexicans the hope of living in a more developed country with the modern conveniences of wealthier nations. Blending rigorous economic and statistical analysis with concern for the people affected, Mexican Women in American Factories offers the first assessment of whether NAFTA has fulfilled these expectations by examining its socioeconomic impact on workers in a Mexican border town.

Carolyn Tuttle led a group that interviewed 620 women maquila workers in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. The responses from this representative sample refute many of the hopeful predictions made by scholars before NAFTA and reveal instead that little has improved for maquila workers. The women's stories make it plain that free trade has created more low-paying jobs in sweatshops where workers are exploited. Families of maquila workers live in one- or two-room houses with no running water, no drainage, and no heat. The multinational companies who operate the maquilas consistently break Mexican labor laws by requiring women to work more than nine hours a day, six days a week, without medical benefits, while the minimum wage they pay workers is insufficient to feed their families. These findings will make a crucial contribution to debates over free trade, CAFTA-DR, and the impact of globalization.

Carolyn Tuttle is Betty Jane Schultz Hollender Professor of Economics at Lake Forest College, where she is currently Chair of the Latin American Studies Department and Director of the Border Studies Program. She also authored Hard at Work in Factories and Mines: The Economics of Child Labor in Great Britain.
