Liberty Bar was the 17th Maigret book, originally published in 1932. It didn't appear in English (trans. Geoffrey Sainsbury) until 1940.

It's one of the best Maigret books I have read so far. Definitely a favorite within the series. Maigret travels to Antibes for to investigate a very sensitive murder-- that of one William Brown. While the book contains many typical Maigret elements, the atmosphere sets it apart. Maigret is nearly lost in the unreal Antibes environment-- sun, bars and luxury. He nearly abandons attempts at normal detective method, and instead tries to feel his way through this strange world. It's as though in the south, the nature of justice itself is confused-- or perhaps not even relevant.

This is a helpful read for those wanting to discover the possible origins of first peoples in the Americas. I think we tend to underestimate our ancestors capabilities.

Yes, some of the artwork evidence for an African presence in America is dubious, but what about evidence about plants that were possibly transfered back and forth. Also people were using water craft before 15,000 BP, so it is possible some people came here that way. The idea that the Bering Straight was the only way people got here needs to be reexamined.

Leo Wiener presents linguistic and iconographic evidence that Africans had intimate relations with the Mexican Indians. He provides information that the trade in Mexico and the religion of the Mayan and Aztec Indians was heavily influenced by Africans. Throughout the book and especially volume 3, Dr Wiener explains that these African were predominately Mande speaking people from West Africa.

This film provides information on the Mayan evidence of Pre-Columbian relations between Africans and the Mayan Indians. It shows that Dr. Wiener was right about a Mande influence among the Maya. It also provides a decipherment of the Mayan textual material by Dr. Clyde Winters of the Uthman dan Fodio Institute.

Diana has always been interested in nature and has been going to Kruger National Park and other nature reserves at least once per year since 1970. In 2010, a few months after retirement, she decided to do a year-long nature course. This was fantastic because she learnt not only about mammals and birds, but also about grass, trees, insects, reptiles, ecology and lots more. This really fired her up and when some friends decided to offer a similar course, she was very pleased to draw up some notes on the mammals of Southern Africa for them. These “notes” became a lot more and before she knew it, she had almost written a book. Rather than keep this knowledge to herself, she decided that to self-publish and give other people interested in mammals a chance to share in her voyage of discovery into the lives of mammals. We are inclined to forget that Man (Homo sapiens) is also a mammal and she have found great enjoyment in understanding Man’s sometimes illogical reactions in light of what she has learnt about mammal behaviour. She have also learnt that Man’s physical structure prevents him from ever being able to outrun a dog or an antelope and that, as omnivores, our digestion is such that we cannot exist on meat alone or on vegetables alone. She hopes that you, the reader, get as much enjoyment out of reading this book as she got writing it.

Sourh African Safari Companion

I would definitely recommend the book to all of my friends and family. The book is very informative and has helped me and my wife when we have visited the Kruger Park and the Pillansburg reserves, we were able to recognize and understand more about certain animals and rodents. The author explains things in an easy and simple way.
