About the Author

Bryce Bigger is an interactive designer and developer. He is the owner of The Bigger Design, a hotbed of interactive magic making for clients including the U.S. Navy, Oracle, Ping Golf, Lockheed Martin, and the National Institutes of Health. He created The Sentinel Project, an open-source autonomous foam dart gun system, which was shown at the AdobeMAX tradeshow to spotlight its innovative use of Adobe AIR technology. Since then, he's produced other foam-dart weaponry for clients including email marketing leaders MailChimp.

A really fun read; look forward to my own blaster project

I didn't really expect to read this book from cover to cover in one sitting. I did simply because it is a really fun book to read.

Written in exuberant style, it is one part instruction manual, one part autobiography of creative evolution, and three parts shout of encouragement to new tinkerers and old geeks (TLSF Death Blossom!!!). I look forward to giving my copy to a 10 year old neighbor who loves to build stuff and loves graphics and games. I don't think his little sister will thank me for setting him up to build a fully robotic Nerf launcher, but this project is such a great blend of fun and learning that it will be worth it.

On technical note, this book is also a great little introduction to the wide range of capabilities in the "Processing" programming language. Prior to this, I thought of Processing only as the basis for the Arduino IDE. This book has opened my eyes to lots of new possibilities to use Processing to knit together all kinds of software/graphics/physical computing projects.

helpful, entertaining intro

Intro books don't come any better than this - the author provides clear instructions for navigating Processing and Arduino to build a robotic NERF weapon. The step-by-step directions are easy to follow and not too complicated. (The pictures really help too!) I was surprised how funny and entertaining the writing is, since I was expecting just a how-to manual. Some of the side stories about Adobe and MailChimp are actually pretty cool.

I'm a complete novice to programming, but I've played with NERF guns for years, which is what drew me to the book. It's an awesome project - great idea, great book, great buy.

Inspiring and easy to follow!

This is such a fun, easy to follow book.
If you have ever only briefly thought about doing any physical computing/coding, but have been turned off (like me), thinking its too overwhelming or hard to learn... do yourself a favor and buy this book!

The author does a great job of walking you through the basics, providing great visuals and snippets of code to make your first project a reality.
Great writing, especially since he uses his own real projects as examples. It's not some boring, hard to read instruction manual.

It's inspiring too.
He reminds you throughout the book to tinker and experiment; and how a playful side project/hobby can lead to real work and employment opportunities.
I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to building my own projects soon!

Bringing together an interdisciplinary collection of articles for social and cultural geographers, this Reader critically examines the argument that the close associations of the 1950s between place (the home, the community and the nation state) and the social divisions (gender, class and nationality) are breaking down in the 1990s. Drawing out the oppositional movements in each decade, it seeks to show how the supposed stability of one and the mobility of the other are exaggerated.

An Accessible and Personal Approach to Working with the Olympic Spirits

I agree with Leonte when he talks about how cultural spirits have a specific feel. And while Leonte claims the Olympic spirits have a Hebrew/Kabbalistic feel, I think of them more as fusion energies, growing out of many different traditions rather than just the Jewish lineages of magic.

One thing I like about Leonte's text is his personal relationship with the spirits. As the author states in Location 38, I as well found Aratron to be more inviting than other Saturian energies and intelligences. I find the Olympic spirits to be more like guides within the planetary spheres rather than representative's of the energy itself.

In Location 42 Leonte tells us that, unlike the traditional grimoires with a butt load of things to acquire, all we need to work with these energies and intelligences is their names and sigils. It does not hurt to have other things that resonant/embody the planetary energies so as to deepen and extend our relationship with that plane, but in the end, as the author states, it is unnecessary.

Leonte's Olympic ritual is simple and to the point. That is very refreshing. I myself have found doing ritual in such a manner to be more personal and effective.

As for Leonte's description and list of correspondences for each Olympic Spirit, it is the same as is found in the source material for these spirits, the Arbatel Grimoire.

Being a practicing magician who has studied the occult traditions for a few years now, I have to say I did not find anything new. Having said that, I do believe the simplicity of Leonte's approach/rituals and his personal experiences shared throughout the text offer aspiring adepts a nice introduction to working with the Olympic Spirits.

Everything needed to work with the Olympic Spirits is here. I would still suggest, as the author does, that you either download the Arbatel from the internet or purchase a copy of it: Joseph Peterson's version is the best in my mind. There is a lot more to the grimoire than what Leonte offers in this text.

As for Leonte's book, he finishes it with a few words on magical evocation that I found to be enjoyable and agreeable with my particular tastes.

So, for those who are new to working with the planetary energies, this is a good book to get. It is safe, positive, honest, simple, and accessible.

I haven't had a chance to try the practices yet but this book was a good read. If you are looking for a short introduction to planetary magic or if you are familiar with it and you are looking for a streamlined practice, this is the book for you. The Olympick spirits are perfect for those who wish to avoid the "baggage" associated with Jedeo-Christian angels or Graeco-Roman deities. This book is for someone who already has a good foundation in magical theory.

Nice and practical information. Anousen Leonte also gives insights about nature of this kind of magic. Arbatel is one the famous texts, even praised by E. A. Waite, and 'Olimpic spirits' are heart of the system in practical way. Thanks for this nice book!

The Perfect Gift for Aspiring Haruspices!

If you have ever been tantalized by the thought of ancient forms of divination that are not feasible to research today, look no further. Archdruid Emeritus of ADF Druidry Skip Ellison has done the field work for us in this fascinating little volume.

Through Skip's work, we can approach the ancient practice of Haruspicy, divination through examining the entrails, in this case the liver, of animals sacrificed as offerings to the Gods and Goddesses of the ancients. This method was widespread in the ancient world, and used by a number of different cultures. We have found clay model livers--one of which is pictured on the cover--from Babylon, designed to teach aspiring Haruspices, and the famous Piacenza Bronze Model Liver from Etruscan culture.

This book is a serious work, designed to help us understand the ancient divinatory form without all the butchery. However, when I announced to Druidic friends that I was getting Skip's book and the accompanying set of Liver Cards available through Gamecrafter, I was told that they were originally created in fulfillment of of a bet between Archdruids, about which ancient form of divination was the most unlikely to be revived in the present day, chuckle! This knowledge added to my enjoyment of the book and the cards.

This is a fascinating if overlong look at the megasuccess of Fleetwood Mac in the mid-1970s, after the former British blues band recorded the laid-back rock songs of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks that made the album Rumours one of the most popular of its era. While working at the band's recording studio, Harris, currently a music business costume designer, became Buckingham's girlfriend and constant companion from 1976 through 1984, and she gives a detailed look—more so than drummer and original member Mick Fleetwood's biography—at this already well-chronicled story of how the success of Rumours provided the income for extravagant cocaine-fueled excesses before, during and after performances. Harris too often uses clichés, such as her view of the band's beautiful insanity. But she does candidly recount Buckingham's rage and his repeated physical assaults on her. Along the way, she offers great descriptions of the band's recording sessions, especially her account of Buckingham's desire to create something new, something completely different for Tusk, the more experimental (and less profitable) follow-up to Rumours. Harris, then Buckingham's girlfriend, chronicles the behind-the-scenes drugs-and-sex-and-rock-and-roll aspects of the band's late-1970s climb to mega mainstream success with the albums Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, and the relatively underperforming Tusk. During this time, group bassist John McVie and his wife, Christine, the band's most successful songwriter, divorced; Buckingham and Nicks ended their romantic relationship; and internal love affairs and myriad rumors threatened band cohesiveness. Enter Harris, who proved more a symptom than a cause of the turmoil. Using extremely rich material for a rock tell-all, she now offers the sort of in-depth reportage that, though engrossing, does rather strain credulity concerning the accuracy of all its quoted dialogue; but then, such is expected of and usual in such books. Great Book!

I generally read history books but sometimes I read books about music or musicians. I had read Ken Caillet's book "Making Rumours" this past spring which was another good read but his book ended when the recording of Rumours did and it left me wanting more. So when I went looking for a book to read this time this book by Carol Ann Harris grabbed my attention because it picked up where Ken's left off just as Rumours was about to be released. This was a riveting book! Very well written. A page turner as they say. Every time I put it down I couldn't wait to get back to it. It comes off as sincere and honest. I would love to read a book by Lindsay someday to hear another point of view as well. Get it. Read it. You won't regret it...
BTW- I'm 54 years old. Grew up with Rumours. Saw them on July 28th, 1978 at Rich Stadium (Buffalo NY) Found out in this book it was the second leg of the Rumours tour. They were amazing that night! 75,000 people. Great weather. Foreigner, Bob Welch and Pablo Cruise opened up for them. Ahh what a great memory...

I'm a huge fan of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. I had read "Making Rumours" earlier this year, and found it interesting. Ken Caillet, who wrote that book, mentioned this book and stories that Carol Ann Harris had about Lindsay Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac. At first I thought I was reading an old Tiger Beat magazine (yes, I am that old) the way that Carol Ann Harris started out the first few chapters. While she may not have been star struck, she was really into describing how cute Lindsay was. After that, the story grew more interesting as she told tales of band concerts, traveling and parties. Carol Ann was a saint (just ask her) other than loving cocaine as much as the rest of the group and their small circle of friends. She does shed some light on some things I'd never known or heard before. Everything is told from her perspective, so it's hard to say what really happened all the time as opposed to her perception of what happened. I'd like to think she's a decent person who got caught up in a lot of the madness that was rock'n'roll in the 70s. I'd also like to think Fleetwood Mac has grown beyond who they were at that time, however, it's not their job to be role models, only entertainers.
This is an easy read, a little slow at first, but once I got into the meat of things, it was hard to put down.

I go back and forth on whether I like this book or not. I read it in a day or two, it did hold my attention. But I just can't help thinking that certain things don't ring true. In my opinion, Carol pens herself in a certain light of innocence, devotion, and confusion at Lindsey's alleged outbursts. For people doing as many drugs as Carol says they were, the fights seem one sided. She comes off as the most rational and in control person doing cocaine I've ever heard of. If I had to guess I would imagine that the truth is somewhere in the middle and neither one of them can recollect it accurately because of all the drugs and time gone by.
I've seen some comments about Carol being jealous and catty about Stevie. I didn't get that at all. Stevie probably was kind of out there at the time, and she does seem to have a penchant for being dramatic. I laughed out loud at the part where Stevie compared Lindsey's grand mal seizure with her poodle getting sick from being overheated. I actually think the parts about Stevie seemed spot on. Of course Stevie wouldn't be raring to go be BFFs with Lindsey's new girlfriend. Those two still talk about each other and their relationship even now, imagine how raw it was back in the 70's when Lindsey's new girlfriend was there all the time and they were constantly singing songs about their breakup in rehearsals and at every show.
I would say this book is interesting, but it seems biased, which is what you should expect in my opinion when someone writes their own memoir.

Karate...a most complex and challenging journey

I believe one needs to read widely, do lots of research, and ponder each day on the many great mysteries of KARATE, including regular practice under the guidance of a proven master

I was interested to find " absolute kime?" ..but even my basic understanding of "kime" has certainly not been enhanced ...so I wonder where I missed the message?

But this is my humble opinion?....you need to check it out for yourself
